Vantashala Kitchen at Kadambavanam, ECR

Functional Open Kitchen with a small store, built mostly with local materials. All materials used were raw, rustic, handmade and to their natural finish.

Located off East Coast Road stretch in a farm Kadambavanam by Amar Ramesh. The structure designed to be an open kitchen as an extension of a Farmhouse. Layout Planning and Roofing design is inspired by waves of the ocean. Involving traditional cooking practices it houses a wood-fire stove and oven as well in the layout. Amar and Nethra were very open to something very unique in form and we’re inspired by vernacular means. Their input was very vital in shaping up the design. The design intent was to use Achukkal - age old brick form currently used very rarely. Year after year, the brick ages like wine. It’s always a pleasure working with friends who give us a free hand and let us explore creative possibilities.

Materials - Achukkal Bricks, Concrete, Glass blocks, Reclaimed Wood, Athankudi Tiles
